Polymarket sports whales: what big bets on games tell you
Sports is most of Polymarket's whale volume. Here's why sports bets are hard to grade fairly and hard to copy.
Why sports dominate
Games settle fast and run every day, so most $10k+ Polymarket trades are on sports. Volume isn't the same as information, though: a lot of it is bettors with strong opinions, not inside knowledge.
In-game bets
Many big sports trades happen after the game has started, when the score already tells you a lot. A whale buying at 95¢ late in a game isn't predicting much. We leave bets placed in the final hour before a market's start or close out of the scoreboard.
Settlement speed
Most sports markets settle within hours. A day-old alert on a game is a result, not a trade. If you follow sports whales at all, only live information matters, and even then the price may already reflect the whale's own fill.
What to check
Look at a wallet's record in sports specifically, its sample size, and whether its wins came at long odds or near-certain prices. The category filter on the leaderboard does this.
Not a tip sheet
WhaleGrader shows what large traders did and how it turned out. It doesn't say what to bet.
